The Loss of a Laser Pioneer

Charles H. Townes, a physicist from the US, recently passed away at the age of 99 years old. Dr. Townes won the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics, for his work on microwave-emitting devices (masers) and light-emitting devices (lasers). He shared that prize with Nikolai G. Basov and Aleksandr M. Prokhorov, both from Russia. His discoveries were the foundation for aesthetic laser treatments, as well as leading to the transformation of multiple fields, including communications, the medical industry, modern weaponry, and more.
